Artistic performance, competence in composition of music, or excellence in research is the basis of requirements for the Master of Arts degree in Music.
Master of Music in Performance Degree
Students in the Master of Music program will attain and demonstrate superior skills in instrumental or vocal music performance, further their knowledge in music history, music literature, and music theory, and demonstrate effective skills in research methods in both written and oral communications. Students who complete the program will have achieved a thorough understanding of their craft, gained the ability to plan for continued musical and intellectual development, and will be well-prepared to meet professional demands in music teaching and performance.

Applicants for the Master of Music degree program should either arrange for an on-campus audition (held in Spring semester prior to Fall enrollment) or submit a DVD or online format that includes a minimum of four unedited recent performances. Students already enrolled in the UAF Department of Music or who live within the Fairbanks North Star Borough must perform a live audition. Performances should include the applicant as a soloist and, if possible, performing in a small chamber setting.
Graduate auditions are held in the last week of February for entrance to the following Fall semester. Contact the Department of Music for the specific audition date and deadlines. All students must pass their entrance audition before being admitted as graduate students. Students must fill out and submit the online audition request form (see below) to book their entrance audition (confirmation will be sent to you from the audition coordinator).
