Graduate Admission Guidelines

The deadline for submission of ALL application materials is January 10th.

STEP 1- Submit the following form for an audition.

Applicants for the Master of Music degree program should either arrange for an on-campus audition (held in Spring semester prior to Fall enrollment) or submit a DVD or online format that includes a minimum of four unedited recent performances. Students already enrolled in the UAF Department of Music or who live within the Fairbanks North Star Borough must perform a live audition. Performances should include the applicant as a soloist and, if possible, performing in a small chamber setting.

Graduate auditions are held in the last week of February for entrance to the following Fall semester. Contact the Department of Music for the specific audition date and deadlines. All students must pass their entrance audition before being admitted as graduate students. Students must fill out and submit the online audition request form (see below) to book their entrance audition (confirmation will be sent to you from the audition coordinator).

STEP 2- UAF Application for Graduate Admission – Online Application
Online Application form.

The following documents must be submitted online through the UAF Graduate Admissions link:

Resume/Vitae
Include work and research experience, publications, honors, professional and civic memberships, and foreign travel.

Statement of Academic Goals
Write a statement indicating why study is desired in the Master of Music program. Include qualifications and educational experience.

Letters of Recommendation
Include at least three letters of recommendation from people able to vouch for the applicant's academic work, character and ability to undertake graduate study and research.

The following materials must be mailed directly to the UAF Office of Admissions:

Transcripts: The Office of Admissions requires official transcripts of all college-level course work. To be considered official, transcripts must arrive in sealed envelopes from each institution attended.  

Transcripts for International Applicants: International applicants must submit official transcripts showing that a Bachelor of Music degree has been or will be earned, and must submit certified English translations of transcripts of all college-level course work to the Office of Admissions.

Test Results: Results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) are required from applicants to most graduate programs. Some programs also require GRE subject exams. MBA program applicants are required to submit scores from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Refer to the admission requirements of your prospective degree program to determine which tests are required. Results of the GRE are required for all students whose undergraduate GPA is below a B (3.0) average regardless of the departmental requirement.

STEP 3 – Supporting Materials for UAF Department of Music

Although your support materials will be forwarded to your primary UAF studio instructor, you should contact the instructor directly to make it known you are applying for graduate admissions into the program. A list of all department of music faculty can be found at: www.uaf.edu/music.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING SUPPORT MATERIALS TO THE UAF DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC:

2) Statement of Purpose
Your statement of purpose should not exceed 1700 words or roughly three pages in length. Focus your Statement of Purpose on the reasons you are interested in attending the UAF graduate program. It should address your qualifications, your future goals in your area of specialization, potential research interests, and Teaching Assistantship duties you feel qualified to fulfill (please see “Supplemental Application Form” for TA-ship areas).

3)     a. Performance Experience
A repertory list of works (solo and chamber) performed and a sample of printed concert programs in which you have participated as performer.

b. Materials to Submit
